After 18 years of practicing homeopathy, I can say many a fancy thing about wellness, darn tootin’. Lots of those fancy things will make you well. But few things in our collective human history will make us as well as the wake of change COVID-19 is leaving behind. It has changed us all, and provided an almost mechanical, yet also almost instant, cultural evolution. If we could slow-mo the instant change, like we see in a movie, and then in the next frame the actors are light years ahead, that is us now.
If, of course, we take the opportunity at large – and I believe we have.

Our Top 5 Tips for Peaceful Living
First, let’s do a movie set walkthrough of the foundational key points of wellness, according to homeopathic philosophy and world view. It’s a great way to get started, because just like the staycation scenes of initial COVID lockdowns, we will discover that we already have everything we need in our own homes.
We already have working bodies. Our minds are our own, and anything else we decide we want, we can order in. More important though, is when we slow it down to its basic parts, or just the essentials, we will see how we are truly empowered by the disruption (or the disease) because life is suddenly unburdened by the extraneous things that don’t really matter. We are free.
I promise, this is not a hollow gratitude moment. This is life in its wholeness, bona fide. This is life’s simplification, where we pack up only the things we love, and move into the lead actor’s trailer for the rest of the shoot.
In a flash, homeopathy defines optimal health as “creative freedom.” We determine all factors that limit this creative freedom to be disease. And we consider the medicine to be all factors that restore or maintain an individual’s creative freedom. A healthy life literally boils down to balancing those three energies: disease, medicine, and creative freedom.
At the core of these energies (the driver) is you. From this homeopathic perspective, you get promoted into the director’s chair.

See how fast a change in perspective flips the equation around? What if we dropped our cultural obsession with disease and medicine – the things we don’t totally know for sure – and really sharpened our camera’s focus on the things we love about the movie? Let’s even be the bold producer here in the next scene too. What if you didn’t have a disease, and you didn’t need a medicine for that disease? What if that was a deleted scene? Yes! Let your mind go there, to where you are in charge of the next scene – yes, exactly. Dream it up and write it down. What are the things you imagine about yourself, and those things you are doing? Those things are you, unburdened of all the things you think you should be, all the things you don’t totally know for sure, and all the things you do to support that “maybe” version of yourself.
Don’t think you can do it? Don’t think it’s worth the sacrifices? Well, frankly, neither did I; I really had to surrender to that concept-moment too. I’ve known, believed in, and taught what I just shared from a professional perspective, but I could never find the consistent time to explore my own creative freedom until, you got it, enter COVID-19, stage left. It gave me the opportunity to create my own defining moment. Suddenly, just like so many of us, I had all the cares in the world, and ample free time to worry about them. Fortunately, I also had my glass art studio in my basement, where the outcome is always happy and positive. It was an absolute dream come true, but could I let myself do that?
Sure I could! Ah, if I just started, just got the ball rolling, just turned on the kiln, picked some colours to work with, and lit the torch. And it worked! In only a few minutes, I had made a single blue bead – those are my fave – and the world was aqua. I picked another color. Red. I made a few of those. Then orange. Yellow. Soon the evening was also three of my favorite greens. The tunes were the deepest of Bowie and the purplest of Prince.
And then, suddenly there it was; I got my arty mojo back. I cranked the tunes, and I dared myself to make a big purple heart. The pressure was on, but the feeling was there. Life was there, cheering me on, and helping me focus all of my attention on the next scene in the movie I was crafting. What would this magical collection of glass beads infused with my life force become? What could they become?
And then, from the ethers I felt the words: Darling, anything your heart desires.
What did you do? If you didn’t have the opportunity, as many of us did during COVID lockdowns, what do you wish you had been able to do during this time? What did you miss? What didn’t you miss? Ask yourself these questions. Make a list, and make a few of these things happen. That’s the stuff that wellness is made of. That’s life. That’s you.
Who are you, when you are free? Create more room for that in your life. Put your heart in your hands and let that person steal the show.
