I don’t know about you, but this quarantine has been playing my skin a fool!
No matter the moisturizing masks, the mud smooshed all over my cheeks, the overnight peels – it just doesn’t help. I’ve been spending most of my time at my computer writing articles, making presentations and basking in that sickening glare from all those Zoom conferences. So how can we give our hair, skin and nails a boost when all the typical products just don’t do the trick? That’s why you have me around 😉
I decided to dive deeper into the world of skincare – past the potions, lotions and abrasions. I went so much deeper. Like inside the body deeper. Our skin is the largest organ of our body. The Integumentary System makes up our hair, skin and nails – and it’s the main protector of our internal organs. It keeps bacteria, viruses and fungi in check and helps to maintain our body temperature. It gets rid of waste through our sweat (if you ever drank too much and reeked of vodka when you woke up hungover) – thank you, Integumentary System!
Essentially For Your Skin
I love Essential Oils. They smell amazing and have so many uses – from calming to energizing. They aren’t just for your olfactory senses. You can use them in your drinks and recipes to create a vibrant taste. But you can’t just grab some oils from a store and drink them down – DO NOT. There are pure oils specifically for imbibing as opposed to the ones you use in your diffuser.
I asked Eileen Ladwig – an AromatouchTechnique Instructor and doTERRA Wellness Advocate to tell me all about the oils her company uses to help keep our hair, skin and nails healthy.
She sang praises of their Yarrow|Pom Cellular Beauty Complex. “The capsules help in activating skin-protecting proteins and inhibiting the enzymes that breakdown elasticity and collagen with the added benefit of promoting collagen production. Within one month of adding this product to my daily routine I’ve had numerous people comment on how healthy my skin looks.” The Yarrow and Pom oil is combined with Celery Seed, Frankincense, Palmarosa, Turmeric, and Melissa oils and are full of antioxidants – our body only produces a small amount internally, so we rely on external sources to keep our systems clean. and are packed into a capsule for a quick dose of skin food.
There are many ways that essential oils can help your hair, skin and nails!
Super (and Yummy!) Skincare
Super Foods are not a new concept – We’re learning more and more about how we can harvest the core ingredients we need to live our best lives while staying healthy. They have a large expanse of nutrients, such as antioxidants, which are thought to stave off cancer. They also have healthy fats, which are thought to prevent heart disease. Fiber is a nutrient thought to prevent digestive problems as well as diabetes. And finally Phytochemicals, which are the chemicals in plants responsible for those rich deep colors and scent. For example – blueberries are considered a Super Food because they carry so many vitamins, fiber and those phytochemicals called flavonoids that create that deep purpley-blue color.
So how do you get all the Superfoods that help with your hair, skin and nails in one place?
Shaking Up Your Skincare
Sue Tomchyshyn, a Senior Gold Ambassador for Plexus Worldwide, educated me on how their Joyōme™ Multi-Action Collagen Complex helps your skin to glow. “It supports your skin’s structure in three unique ways: providing you with 5 grams of Types I and III collagen your body can use right away, boosting your body’s ability to product collagen naturally, and reducing collagen breakdown.”
This formula contains Superfoods Acai Palm Fruit, Lucuma Fruit, Pomegranate, Asparagus, Camu-Camu, as well as prebiotics that they also use in their external serums.
Sue says she has been seeing results in a short time. “I’ve been adding two scoops of this neutrally-flavored mix into my shake each day, and I’m starting to see a real difference!”

Skipping the Shake
Some people just don’t want to drink a daily shake to get their “Super” glow.
I spoke with Katherine Debs, an Independent Consultant and Executive Area Manager for Arbonne about their skin stick formula. “I love this vegan skin Elixir Collagen Booster because it takes self-care to a whole other level; giving me the glow I need from the inside out. It’s a 3-in-1 for healthy looking skin, hair and nails!”
Add it to a glass of water and you’re done. The formula is full of collagen-building ingredients such as sea buckthorn extract, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C. With this boost in collagen, it helps skin with elasticity, texture and glow. That plumpness associated with youth – that’s collagen, baby!
Getting down to the Nitty-Gritty
Now don’t go taking my final words as preaching but it really comes down to what you’re putting in your body that matters. I’ve definitely fallen off my usual way of eating and not going to the gym is screwing with my emotional health. AND THAT’S OKAY! These are strange times we live in and we are being denied our regular schedules. Be kind to yourself and maybe add a superfood or two to help your skin glow, your hair shine and your nails grow strong.
To your best health and beauty!
