Last week, we published the first of our two part series, PUBLISHER’S POV: COVID-19 Vaccine Myths vs. Facts. Today, we’re launching part two. Learn more about the truth behind some of the common COVID-19 vaccination misconceptions that have been widely talked about.
VACCINATED PEOPLE ARE MORE LIKELY TO SPREAD THE VIRUS THAN UNVACCINATED PEOPLE
Mostly False
This depends on the behavior of both the vaccinated and the unvaccinated people. Because breakthrough infections can occur with vaccinated people, they can infect others.
However, despite overabundant anecdotal news reports, breakthrough infections are rare. In situations like the party weekend in Provincetown, Massachusetts where people were not practicing social distancing or wearing masks, the chances of spreading the infection is greater than when both vaccinated and unvaccinated people are practicing healthy behaviors.

What we are facing worldwide is a pandemic of the unvaccinated. The simple fact is that more people are suffering and more people are dying due to the contraction of the Covid-19 virus mostly by unvaccinated people.
The vast majority of hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19 in the U.S. are people who are unvaccinated. Some may not want to believe this data because it comes from a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) study and the CDC is a government agency. However, even the most stringent government critics cannot deny that the unvaccinated ending-up in hospitals and dying holds true worldwide as well, even in countries with high rates of vaccinations like Canada.
You can also read the data for yourself HERE
The BIG TAKEAWAY from this is: If you do not want to be infected or to infect others your best protection will come from being vaccinated AND wearing a mask when around others indoors AND washing your hands as much as possible AND practicing social distancing.
THE VACCINES WERE DEVELOPED TOO QUICKLY FOR US TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE SAFE
100% False
Due to a multitude of factors, including, but not limited to:
- SARS-CoV-2 is only one of many coronaviruses. Research on developing vaccines for corona viruses has been going on for more than 50 years.
- Likewise research on the use of mRNA as a vaccine platform has been ongoing for more than a decade.
- The researchers were able to effectively overlap steps in the testing process, whereas vaccine development under less urgent circumstances would use a linear approach.
- The FDA expedited their review process by having parallel teams work around the clock for two weeks.
In general we know enough about the efficacy of vaccines, whether the newer (but, not new) mRNA vaccines, or the dead-virus vaccine used by Johnson and Johnson, that we can conclude that while all vaccines have side-effect risks, the benefits outweigh the risks.
MALES ARE HAVING SERIOUS MYOCARDITIS AND PERICARDITIS AFTER RECEIVING COVID-19 VACCINATIONS
False for ages 16 – 30, possibly true for ages 12 – 15
Inflammation of the heart and/ or heart-lining has been seen in rare instances in males aged 16 or over following mRNA vaccines. These cases are not life-threatening, nor do they cause hospitalization. Moreover, both “myocarditis and pericarditis are much more common if a person contracts Covid-19.”
On the other hand, a yet-to-be-peer-reviewed study out of the University of California shows that the incidence of myocarditis and pericarditis in males below the age of 16 (as young as 12 in this study) after a second shot of the mRNA vaccines. According to Harvard Health, these cases are mild and do not last long. And parents need to take into consideration the more long-lasting possibility of MIS-C if their child contracts Covid-19.
It is highly recommended that parents speak with their child’s pediatrician about the risk vs. benefits of having their child vaccinated. In particular they will want to talk about an alternative schedule for the second vaccine, or, as is being discussed in the UK, only giving their child one dose of the vaccine.
This is another reason healthy adults need to be vaccinated. If enough adults are vaccinated we can create the herd-immunity needed to greatly dissipate, if not eradicate, Covid-19.
THE COVID-19 VACCINES USE ABORTED FETAL STEM CELLS IN THE VACCINES
100% False
There absolutely NO aborted fetal stem cells used in any of the Covid-19 vaccines. Nor were fetal stems cells used in the production of mRNA vaccines.
To support this claim one need only look at the table of “Ethical CoV-19 Vaccines” created by the pro-life organization The Charlotte Lozier Institute that lists both the Pfizer/ BioNTech and the Moderna vaccinations as ethical under their pro-life standards.
Additionally, one can look at the statement of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops statement that both the of the mRNA Covid-19 vaccines are, “morally acceptable” because the, use of abortion-derived fetal stem cells is “very remote,” and because there is a duty to pursue, “the common good.” For deeper insight on the USCCB’s position read HERE.
The confusion of this comes from the testing and manufacturing of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Unlike the mRNA vaccines, which are produced synthetically, the Johnson and Johnson vaccine uses cell lines replicated from the retinal cells of an aborted fetus in the 1980s to produce the vaccine.
While these cells are not directly from aborted fetuses, and the original cells were used nearly 40 years ago, some Christian religious leaders are still concerned about the morality of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
Bearing in mind their reticence about the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, these same religious leaders strongly support the use of the mRNA vaccines (Pfizer/ BioNTech and Moderna). As mentioned above, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops supports getting vaccinated, as do Evangelical Leader Franklin Graham and the president of the Ethics and Liberty in Religion Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, Russell Moore.

THE BENEFITS OUTWEIGH THE RISKS
Fear of something that seems new is common. In the case of the Covid-19 vaccines that fear is what is known as False Evidence Appearing Real. While there are some side-effects from the vaccines, they are short-lived, and in the overwhelming majority of cases, very mild.

Additionally, whether you are looking at the issue of Covid-19 vaccination from a secular, yet societally moral standpoint, or a strictly religious moral standpoint, individual concerns are outweighed by concern for others in our communities.
If you are still completely opposed to being vaccinated, I understand. BUT, then you need to take precautions in order to not harm (and perhaps even kill) others. These precautions include, mostly socially isolating, wearing a mask and staying at least 6 feet from other people when in public, and washing your hands as often as possible.
The problem is that there are too many people in the U.S., and even in other nations around the world, who not only refuse to be vaccinated, but also refuse to practice precautions in order to protect themselves and others.
If this self-centered approach continues, Covid-19 will continue to spread, will continue to mutate, will continue to cause people to become ill and, most importantly, WILL CONTINUE TO KILL PEOPLE.
Do you really want someone else’s suffering or death on your conscience?
I know that I don’t.
