As we close out this year I want to challenge you to feel Radical Gratitude! Have gratitude for the wisdom you gained and the lessons you learned!
2020 has been a doozy of a year for most of us. From a worldwide pandemic, to race-riots around the U.S., to our communities closing down, opening up and closing down again, it has been a roller coaster ride of stress and the unknown.
If you are feeling 2020 fatigue, you are not alone!
Most of us are ready for life to go back to normal.
But, is there such a thing as normal anymore? I think our world has changed this year. In fact, I think it has changed in a good way. We have learned so many important lessons on a global, national, community, and hopefully a personal level. I know I have!
And, I am Radically Grateful for those lessons and the wisdom I gained from weathering the storms of 2020!
WHAT EXACTLY IS RADICAL GRATITUDE?
In her book, Radical Gratitude, Canadian Author and Theologian Mary Jo Leddy describes it as the result of focusing on the miracle of the everyday and the process of discovering one’s authentic self.
To blogger Kristian Hall, “Radical gratitude means holding on to what’s good in life – no matter how much pain and suffering you also experience.”
These are both incredibly thought-provoking and inspiring ways to think about gratitude. Leddy encourages us to find radical gratitude in the simple act of being aware of and loving our own humanness. Hall invites us to dig deep within ourselves to find gratitude for whatever good we see in our lives, alongside that which is dark and difficult.
While vastly different, these two versions of Radical Gratitude converge into one beautiful meaning: Be grateful for the beauty in life despite the ugliness!

FINDING RADICAL GRATITUDE IN LESSONS LEARNED
For me, Radical Gratitude is found in the wisdom I gain from living and learning. It is definitely easy to be grateful in times of prosperity and ease. But, it is much harder to be grateful in years like the one we are bringing to a close right now.
For every challenge I overcome, and for every roller coaster of life I ride, I become stronger and more resilient. If we take the time to think deeply about what we have learned from the difficulties life throws at us we can grow as a person. As a result, we can become wiser, kinder, stronger, more loving people.
If we can find gratitude in our hearts for the wisdom we gain from each stressful time in our lives, we become stronger in our gratitude overall. Additionally, we become stronger in our ability to find gratitude in the little things, as Leddy encourages, or to find it among the darkness, as Hall inspires us to do.
To me, it is the strength and wisdom gained from practicing gratitude during a roller coaster year that truly defines Radical Gratitude!
Radical Gratitude comes from learning and growing and becoming a better human.
WHAT ARE YOU RADICALLY GRATEFUL FOR IN 2020?
I am Radically Grateful that I learned how to embrace the life of an introvert, in spite of the fact that I’m an extrovert. For example, the quarantine brought on by the pandemic allowed me to spend more time going inside myself, deepening my trust of my intuition, and understanding my true nature.
I am Radically Grateful that I was graced with time to improve upon my coaching curriculum, to redesign it for groups and to give my individual program more focus and inspiration.
