SURVIVING THE QUARANTINE BLAHS BY SHOPPING IN YOUR OWN CLOSET

Shop your closet during quarantine

As we get through another week of quarantine, you may be experiencing a case of the “Blahs.”

THE BLAHS INCLUDE (BUT, ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Sleeping in later than usual.
  • Constant snacking from boredom.
  • Hiding from family members in the bathroom
  • Sitting in front of a computer for hours
  • Checking your phone every 5 minutes
  • “Reminding” the kids to do their homework
  • Hitting YES whenever Netflix asks you if you are still watching
  • Talking to pets as if they were your co-workers
  • – Staying in PJs/sweats all day

It’s a strange time for all of us as we wait to find out when we can re-enter our world once again. It’s not surprising that the Blahs are finding their way into your everyday life.

That’s why it is so important to continue some semblance of your life outside of quarantine. Yes – you can’t go to work, but if you’re virtually attending meetings, dressing as if you were seeing your co-workers in person can make a difference in your emotional health.  It is proven that getting dressed for the day, even though you may not be leaving your home, is important for your mental health.

THE POSITIVES OF DRESSING “FOR SUCCESS” EACH DAY

Taking the time to think about your outfit is taking time to think about you. Peeling off clothing that feels frumpy, like your pajamas (especially if you’ve worn them for more than the day – they can feel sweaty and maybe even grimy!) is like peeling off an old tired layer to make way for something new and fresh.

By doing both of these you are making yourself a priority and practicing self-care. You get to check yourself out in the mirror and remember – you’re a babe!

GETTING MOTIVATED TO GET DRESSED DURING QUARANTINE

It’s easy to say, “Eh, I’ll get dressed tomorrow,” putting it off because it isn’t a necessity. That’s why I created the #shopyourclosetchallenge.

BRING IT!

I’m inviting you to join me in shopping your wardrobe for new looks to wear – maybe something you never thought to put together before!  I post a photo every day of my new outfit on Instagram and Facebook with the hashtag #shopyourclosetchallenge.

It gets me motivated to put on clothing in the back of my closet that I forgot were in there! It’s also a great way to start a closet reorganization… hint hint 😉

Since I started this challenge, I’ve seen a lift in my mood. It’s given me a chance to pull myself together even if I feel like climbing back under the covers. I’m doing my own form of socializing I like to call “social distracting” because, well… the news is not helping with that feeling of doom.
