Not to scare the you-know-what out of you but there can literally be THOUSANDS of harmful chemicals in your home right now.
Take a moment and look around your home. Everything from the building materials to the furniture to your clothing to your skincare products and food can contain toxins.
Sure you can get a whole new eco-friendly home built and buy organic furniture for a ridiculous amount of money.
But, if you’ve been around me for a while, you know I like to keep things as simple and easy as possible for you. And you also know of my love for essential oils.

Today, I’m combining the two and sharing easy ways that you can reduce toxins in your home by using essential oils.
Woohoo! I love being able to talk about two of my faves – toxins and oils!
So just in the basic sense, diffusing essential oils in your home helps to purify the air. Whether that be from chemicals or viruses and bacteria.
This is awesome because the easiest way to use essential oils is to diffuse them!
The one caveat is that some essential oils can actually be made up of harmful chemicals themselves (aka fragrance). Don’t worry – I have a whole podcast episode and blog post all about how to make sure you’re getting the real deal.

CLEAN HOME
Tip #1: For a truly clean home start diffusing!
Lemon essential oil for a clean, fresh scent.
Ylang Ylang for a calming and flowery scent.
Frankincense for a grounding and woodsy scent.
Tip 2: Use Essential Oils to clean with
There is no shortage of DIY recipes on Pinterest.
I’ve used Lemon essential oil plus olive oil as furniture polish.
I consider grout to be a top nemesis of mine! It’s so hard to keep clean. Every once in a while, I’ll mix baking soda, water and some Melaleuca essential oil as a grout scrub.
Many of my clients use a vinegar, water and Lemon essential oil combo for an all purpose cleaner.
CLEAN BODY
Tip 3: DIY skin care!
I was so intimidated to make my own skin care products before I actually started making them. DIY products are really simple and are nicer on the wallet.

Tip 4: Detox
Having a truly clean home starts with having a clean body. A detox helps get toxins out of your body.
Unfortunately, these days it is impossible to avoid all chemicals and toxins. Instead of worrying about it, I work with my clients to help them eliminate what they can so that they don’t worry about the rest.
That being said, we’re still going to come into contact with toxins. Helping our body detox from those toxins is important!
Cilantro is the most powerful detoxifying essential oil.
Our liver is a key organ in the detox process. If our liver is backed up, our body will have a hard time getting rid of toxins. Fennel, Cumin and Clove protect our liver (source)
The detox benefits happen when we take the above essential oils internally. I know that’s a hot topic. All I’m gonna say about it is I feel comfortable occasionally taking essential oils internally from the brand that I have researched and trust.
If you don’t feel comfortable taking essential oils internally, don’t. You can still use them and get so many awesome benefits of them!
