A New Year Brings Opportunity — Despite Our Past

As we begin the new year, we may have our reservations of what 2022 may have in store for us.

What if we went ahead of the game and chose to make the year work for us instead of working for the year?

Here are three tips to experience a year that excites you in the way that you may delight in, instead of wishing to run from.

Collect Memories More Than Things

Our human experience is extremely interesting as we choose to collect physical objects that eventually acquire dust and we choose still, to hold on to them.

To what end? For what reason?

For the physical objects we collect, we are eventually required to fix, clean, polish, and shine them.

Do we look at these items with love?

Or do we look at them with disgust and pity and long to release them even after we have so diligently collected and stored them?

Even through the last two years, surviving a pandemic experience, it may seem as if we have collected more than we have ever collected within our lives so far. (hello, toilet paper) As we become bombarded with the items around us we may feel as if we are overwhelmed. For this new year, let’s make a small pact to ourselves that we will acquire memories instead of objects. Begin today with this simple tool – experience everything you do. Aside from doing everything in your life on autopilot, what if instead you stopped and experienced what you were doing. Taste the food you are eating, sip your coffee with delight, breathe in the fresh air the first moment you step outside.

Experience everything in your life as if it was the first.

These actions will help you create a memory-filled life and enhance the feelings of happiness.

Write Gratitudes Daily

Every morning have a journal nearby to write down three gratitudes to remind yourself of your many blessings. Gratitudes can be small, yet impactful such as being thankful for the very breath you take or the ability to read.

As we remind ourselves of all that we are grateful for we have less and less to become angry at or disappointed by.

We remember it is not happy people who are thankful, yet indeed thankful people that are truly happy.

Added bonus: Write three more gratitudes before you drift off to sleep. You may begin to notice a shift in your dreams as your gratitudes become the last thought before sleep.

Move Your Body Everyday

I am a huge advocate for movement as it makes me feel alive. When we move our bodies everyday we stay healthy, grounded, and strong. Movement doesn’t have to be complex either. I often do 10 minutes of yoga before I go on about my day so that I feel as if I have lengthened my muscles and have created a little bit more flexibility within my body. Yoga in general helps to boost self-confidence, flexibility, and an overall feeling of well-being.

You are welcome to try one of our 30 minute on demand classes within Effervescence Yoga On Demand for two weeks, on us!  You may be amazed at how you begin to feel after moving intentionally everyday for those 14 days.
