WELLNESS GOALS: CONSISTENCY IS KEY

wellness goals

how to stay consistent to reach your wellness goals

I often hear from women that they struggle with staying consistent when trying to reach their wellness goals.

If you feel like you have a hard time staying consistent or ‘fall off the wagon’, this is DEFINITELY for you!

Don’t have time to read? Listen to the podcast episode here.

One issue I see with consistency is that we rely on motivation to keep us ‘on track’. However, motivation comes and goes which makes it very unreliable.

We tend to be most motivated at New Years or when bathing suit season is coming up.

This means most of us are motivated only twice a year for very short time periods. And even then, the typical wellness goals have to do with weight loss.

I go into why weight loss should NOT be your #1 goal and how it can actually lead to unhealthy practices and habits in this post or this podcast episode

Lack of motivation can be used as an excuse to not take the steps we need to take to reach our goals.

Do you have trouble staying consistent with social media or keeping up on your tv show? Somehow, those are easier than doing what we need to do to live our best life.

It’s also so easy to slip back into our old routines and comfort zones. We’ve done them for so long that we don’t have to think about it.

Is your comfort zone really that comfortable? Mine wasn’t. While I was stuck in my old unhealthy comfort zone, I suffered from frequent migraines, depression, anxiety and more.

None of those health issues are comfortable!

No matter what our goals are (health, career, relationships, etc), the steps needed to reach those goals are often right outside of our comfort zones.

WELLNESS GOALS START WITH YOUR “WHY.”

There’s one trick or key that I’ve found to help us stay consistent.

That is to have a ‘Why’.

A Why is the big, deep rooted meaning behind the choices you’re making. If you haven’t taken the time to develop or think about your Why, you may not be living your dream life.

Your Why shouldn’t be temporary or short term. When it comes to health, your big Why should be what you want your health to look like now until the day you pass.

Part of my Why is to never have a migraine again. This means that I have to practice the things that help me avoid them every single day – FOREVER.

I also have the health goal to be sassy, spunky, independent, energetic, free of medication, etc. until the day I leave this earth. And what I do now, has an impact on my health decades from now.

Having these long term Why’s is what drives me to stay consistent.

Your why, that vision of your best life, will get you into the gym, will help you leave the cookies on the shelf, will get you into the kitchen.

AVOID GENERALIZATIONS ~ TRY TO BE SPECIFIC

Let’s say that your current health goal is to be healthy or to lose weight.

Healthy is too general and it means something different to each of us. What exactly does health mean to you?

Weight loss goals are often temporary. Why do you want to lose weight? To reduce your risk for disease, to have more energy, to feel sexy?

What do you want your life to look like when you’re 80 or 90? What we do today affects us decades from now.

Take some time today and really think about these questions. Journal and daydream about what your best life looks like.

This is the easiest way to begin to develop a Why that means so much to you that you look forward to doing what you need to do to make that vision your reality.

SELF-KINDNESS COUNTS

Another tip I have is to be nice to yourself. Life happens, kids happen, adulting happens, sh*t happens and these can all knock us off track.

So give yourself grace, but also let these be the exception. Let these be something that temporarily derails you, but not for too long.

Think about your why daily. Share it with others.

With everything you choose, ask ‘Does this support my Why?’.

If the answer is yes – go for it! If the answer is no or maybe, is it worth it?

Accountability helps too! I’m here to help you with your consistency, to keep you accountable and to motivate you toward your wellness goals! Learn how to work with me.

I would LOVE to know what your Why is. Feel free to either leave it in the comments or send me a direct message on Instagram.
